Vouch is a tech-enabled insurance advisory and brokerage serving ambitious companies in technology, life sciences, and professional services. Backed by over $200M in funding, Vouch combines deep industry expertise with AI-powered tools to deliver a better insurance experience. The company is the preferred insurance provider to customers of Y Combinator, Brex, Carta, and WeWork.
This Principal Engineer role is critical as Vouch's engineering organization transitions to become agent-native, with AI coding agents writing a large and growing share of production code within human-governed guardrails. The hard problems have shifted: writing code has become commoditized, but deciding what to build, maintaining architectural coherence, and proving correctness of shipped systems remain complex challenges. This role owns that strategic layer.
As a Principal Engineer, you will drive architectural decisions, guide the integration of AI agents into the development workflow, establish guardrails and governance frameworks, and ensure system reliability and correctness at scale. You'll work across the engineering organization to define standards, mentor senior engineers, and shape the technical direction of the platform.
The role is based in Chicago with hybrid flexibility (minimum three days per week in office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Vouch has offices in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York City, with employees distributed across the US. The company values transparency, integrity, empathy, curiosity, and client obsession.
