As Principal Engineer, you will provide deep technical leadership across MOO's ecommerce ecosystem, spanning storefront, customization tools, checkout, payments, order orchestration, manufacturing, fulfillment, and shipping. You'll partner closely with engineering teams, product leadership, and the Platform group to define architectural direction and unblock cross-team delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting architectural standards for the ecommerce journey from purchase to delivery
- Balancing scaling of current systems with iterative migration away from legacy components
- Defining contracts, events, and guardrails that make the ecosystem observable, resilient, and cost-efficient
- Establishing best practices for AI-assisted development to maintain speed without compromising quality
- Translating operational requirements from Customer Service and Operations teams into pragmatic platform improvements
- Enabling multiple teams to move quickly and efficiently through coherent, scalable architecture
This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Technology. Your scope spans multiple teams across ecommerce and post-purchase operations. You'll work primarily with the UK-based engineering team while partnering with stakeholders at manufacturing facilities in East Providence, Rhode Island and Dagenham, London. The role includes occasional travel to the East Providence facility (a couple times per year), with flexibility to explore alternatives if needed.
MOO's engineering challenges are unique: every order is manufactured after payment, requiring solutions that bridge physical and digital systems. The company is actively consolidating ecommerce platforms, improving data visibility, integrating new carriers, and increasing manufacturing capacity while protecting customer experience and margins.
