As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the definition and execution of key strategic initiatives within the engineering organization. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with company-wide technical scope, working autonomously and accountable for strategic execution across parts of the engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mastering domain knowledge and driving key strategic projects within the R&D organization
- Providing assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to engineering leadership to guide resource allocation and prioritization
- Contributing to technical architecture as the company scales to serve all customer requests
- Balancing agility with scalability and availability, leveraging continuous deployment and feature flagging
- Contributing across all phases of software development: ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation, with a mix of hands-on development and architecture work
- Building both back-end and front-end systems while working closely with designers, product managers, researchers, and data analysts
- Coaching and mentoring other engineers and partnering with Group Engineering Managers on technical strategy
- Playing an active role in hiring, mentoring, and career development
- Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence
Required qualifications:
- Significant experience building SaaS products with demonstrated impact on product and teams
- Deep knowledge of high-level programming languages (Ruby, Python, Perl, etc.)
- Experience with distributed systems
- 2+ years as the primary technical leader for a team
- Proven track record collaborating with technical leaders, product teams, and designers
- Strong product strategy sense and pragmatic approach to cross-disciplinary collaboration
