CesiumAstro is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer II to lead software development across the full stack for satellite communication systems, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space/airborne platforms.
You will own software design and implementation from concept through production, spanning low-level microcontroller firmware, Linux-based single-board computers, board support packages (BSP), device drivers, and end-user applications. Responsibilities include:
• Full-lifecycle software development: architecture, design, coding, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support
• Development across the entire software stack: microcontrollers, low-level drivers, BSPs, applications, and user interfaces
• Software testing and high-reliability qualification for space/defense environments
• Product roadmap definition, block diagrams, and detailed design documentation
• Engineering design reviews with customers and executive stakeholders
• Proposal writing and technical communication
• Software engineering best practices and project management
The ideal candidate brings deep embedded systems experience, expertise in real-time and safety-critical software, and a track record of shipping production-grade systems. You should be comfortable presenting technical work to customers and leadership, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll drive architectural decisions, mentor the software team, and directly influence product strategy. You'll work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment with autonomy and ownership over critical systems.
Note: U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status required to comply with space technology export regulations.
