Re:Build Manufacturing, through its Fikst division, is seeking a Principal Embedded Firmware Engineer to lead firmware development and mentor engineering teams in a fast-paced product design and engineering consulting environment.
You will have direct responsibility for embedded software solutions across the full product lifecycle—from ideation through design, development, and production. As a player-coach, you'll mentor less experienced engineers on complex embedded systems concepts, professional skills like project management, and best practices in firmware development.
Key responsibilities include:
• Firmware Development: Design and implement robust, scalable embedded software solutions for diverse client projects in biomedical, microfluidics, industrial automation, and other domains.
• Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical authority and mentor, providing expert guidance on firmware architecture, advanced debugging (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), and system-level problem-solving.
• Best Practices: Champion modern development practices including source code management, version control, DevOps, and automated testing across the firmware team.
• Complex Problem-Solving: Conduct electrical characterization and debugging to diagnose intermittent hardware/firmware interactions; create innovative solutions for ambiguous, novel challenges.
• Strategic Influence: Contribute to business development and project scoping, translating technical vision into actionable plans and incorporating firmware considerations into proposals.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, industrial design, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated product solutions.
Fikst operates an advanced prototyping lab with CNCs, 3D printers, and laser cutters, enabling rapid iteration. You'll work with pioneering clients across aerospace & defense, electrification, medical devices, energy, and robotics.
Ideal candidates are exceptional listeners and communicators who can interpret client needs, represent sound development methodology, and articulate technical vision to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You should be a strategic problem-solver comfortable jumping into unfamiliar fields and quickly contributing to solutions.
