Voyager Technologies is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to design, test, integrate, and operate spaceflight avionics and electrical hardware while providing technical leadership to the engineering team. Based in Houston, TX, this role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering.
Key responsibilities include designing and developing space-qualified electronics—power systems, command and data handling, flight computers, sensors, and digital/analog circuits—with full PCB design from schematic through fabrication files. You will author and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including assembly instructions, test procedures, interface requirements, and test/analysis reports.
The role involves conducting electrical testing and troubleshooting using standard test equipment, performing and overseeing qualification and acceptance testing on safety-critical flight hardware, and reviewing payload designs for compatibility with Voyager Space Exploration and NASA requirements. You will support program execution through proposal contributions, technical documentation, and regular status updates to Engineering and Program/Project management, while maintaining traceability controls for electrical components, systems, lab tools, and test equipment throughout the development lifecycle.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field, 10+ years of electrical design and development experience, and a proven track record designing, testing, and integrating electrical systems for space applications. You must have PCB design expertise (schematic layout, routing, symbol/footprint creation, fabrication files), proficiency with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers), experience leading technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders, and a history of mentoring junior engineers. Master's degree preferred. Extensive space hardware industry experience is a plus.
Travel up to 30% required, including overnights to launch sites, customer facilities, and NASA/Government centers. Ability to lift/move items up to 10 pounds required.
