Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to join the Space Special Programs team in Chantilly, VA. This role focuses on designing and developing advanced spacecraft and space systems that provide mission-critical capabilities for U.S. and allied military operations.
You will serve as a highly experienced technical resource responsible for implementing and influencing the team's development roadmap while mentoring and growing the engineering team. The primary focus is on core technologies and subsystems including optical systems, batteries, mechanisms, control systems, and sensors. You will work on spacecraft mechanical design, opto-mechanical systems, and both passive and active mechanisms across the full lifecycle from concept through deployment and operations.
Key responsibilities include executing rapid evaluation of engineering concepts across multiple disciplines, creating solutions to complex blue-sky engineering problems and targeted mission needs, designing and analyzing complex electro-mechanical systems, and collaborating frequently with other core engineering disciplines. The ideal candidate brings significant hands-on experience designing, building, and operating spacecraft systems, with practical expertise in mechanical and opto-mechanical design. Experience with machining components is a significant plus.
