Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG and cardiopulmonary signal collection for clinical development and diagnostics. The company serves life sciences partners and patients with neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders.
You will join the Datastore team, which sits at the heart of Beacon's platform. The Datastore defines the foundational data model and serves as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies, supporting analytical tools, services, and applications used by scientists, clinicians, and partners.
This Principal Data Engineer role emphasizes architecture and design of solutions across the Beacon Platform, with focus on scalable data models, event-driven pipelines, and engineering best practices. You will coach engineers and stakeholders on design patterns, collaborate with product and technical leads across platform and scientific teams, and help shape architectural direction and standards.
Key responsibilities include partnering with engineering and product leaders to guide Datastore architecture and influence standards across Platform teams; implementing features that model best practices while coaching team members; drafting RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design; and maintaining high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
You bring 10+ years of backend development experience with significant focus on data engineering, data platforms, and infrastructure for data-centric applications. You have strong SQL proficiency with production PostgreSQL experience, proficiency with data streaming tools (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Kinesis), and strong general-purpose programming skills. Experience with containerized environments, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Helm) is required. You're interested in LLM-assisted and agentic coding tools with good judgment about guardrails. A collaborative mindset and excellent async/remote communication skills are essential.
