PhysicsX is a deep-tech company building an AI-driven simulation software stack for engineering and manufacturing. The company combines numerical physics expertise with AI inference to enable high-fidelity, multi-physics simulation across the engineering lifecycle, serving customers in Aerospace & Defense, Materials, Energy, Semiconductors, and Automotive.
As Principal CFD Engineer (Delivery), you are a technical leader responsible for delivering complex multi-physics simulation solutions that drive customer impact. You will lead technical direction and execution of simulation workstreams, remaining hands-on for the most challenging aspects while guiding team members through execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading delivery of complex multi-physics simulation projects, partnering directly with customers to address their most challenging engineering problems
- Building and guiding others to develop complex CAE models from geometry cleanup and meshing through simulation, post-processing, and experimental validation
- Creating robust parametric CAD models (NX or CATIA) coupled with simulation pipeline automation for design optimization and Design of Experiments studies
- Working at the intersection of CAE and Data Science to generate high-quality simulation datasets for training ML/DL models, using smart data sampling to reduce computational cost
- Leveraging Flux (company cloud platform) and on-premise HPC resources to accelerate high-fidelity modeling
- Continuously improving engineering best practices and adapting CFD outputs to support Deep Learning surrogate development
- Mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to a collaborative culture
- Traveling globally (North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania) approximately 3-4 weeks per quarter for on-site customer collaboration
You bring 5+ years of commercial (non-research) CFD experience post-Masters/PhD, with deep expertise in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and multiphase modeling. You are highly proficient in at least one of Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent, with ability to automate these tools for scalable optimization workflows. Experience with parametric CAD modeling and Python/Java coding is expected or you can quickly learn programming languages. You are confident setting up CFD simulations independently, interpreting complex results, and making informed engineering decisions.
Role is based in New York with 2-3 days per week in the Manhattan office. Note: Position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws (EAR/ITAR); employment offer may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software/technology without sponsorship for export license.
