Salary: USD 133,165 - 179,711 / annual
Parts Town, a fast-growing distributor of restaurant equipment, HVAC, and residential appliance parts, is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to design, architect, and optimize scalable microservices powering their eCommerce and enterprise platforms.
In this role, you will drive backend architecture and ensure seamless integration across systems including commerce, CMS, ERP, PIM, and marketing platforms. You'll champion best practices in modularization, API design, and event-driven architectures, leveraging Node.js, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies to create secure, high-performance services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing scalable, cloud-native microservices with seamless interoperability between platforms
- Implementing and advocating for modularization, API-first, and event-driven architectures using domain-driven design principles
- Establishing CI/CD practices, automated testing standards, and backend tooling policies
- Leading disaster recovery strategies and defining observability and logging best practices
- Collaborating with frontend, DevOps, and data teams to optimize APIs, caching, and database performance
- Mentoring engineers and contributing to architectural decisions across the organization
You'll work with technologies including Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, NATS, Jest, Mocha, Terraform, Pulumi, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure preferred). The role requires 10+ years of backend system design experience, deep expertise in distributed systems and microservices, and a proven track record of mentoring engineers.
