Dominion Dynamics is seeking a Powerplant Engineer to own the propulsion system architecture for advanced aircraft development. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role reporting to the Director of Aircraft Systems, based in Ottawa with flexibility to consider Montreal and Toronto.
You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the powerplant—from engine selection and trade studies through integration, production, flight test, and field support. Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct engine selection and trade studies, evaluating candidate platforms against mission profiles across weight, thrust/power, specific fuel consumption, emissions, acoustics, and lifecycle cost.
• Model engine performance across the full flight envelope (takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, transient conditions), including installation losses such as inlet recovery, nozzle losses, and bleed/horsepower extraction.
• Lead airframe integration of the complete powerplant assembly—engine, inlet, nacelle, pylon, mounts, and exhaust—managing clearance, thermal protection, vibration isolation, servicing access, nacelle drag, mount loads, and fire zone boundaries in coordination with structures and aerodynamics teams.
• Author and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) defining mechanical, fluid, electrical, and logical boundaries between engine and airframe, with focus on fuel systems, thermal/anti-ice, electrical extraction, and avionics integration.
• Support production and flight test activities, including manufacturing oversight, non-conformance disposition, flight test planning, ground runs, and engine flight data analysis.
• Define maintenance and continuing airworthiness requirements, including baseline maintenance tasks, removal/installation procedures, health monitoring, vibration diagnostics, and field support for failure analysis and service bulletins.
Required experience includes propulsion/powerplant engineering across the full lifecycle, strong engine cycle analysis and performance modeling, hands-on airframe integration (nacelle, mounts, inlet/exhaust), and Interface Control Document authorship. Desired experience includes engine simulation tools, control logic and health monitoring systems, flight test participation, and certification/continued airworthiness familiarity. No defense background required.
