Salary: USD 135,000 - 175,000 / annual
Cowboy Space Corp. is building orbital infrastructure to power and connect the space economy. Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt (Robinhood co-founder) and backed by leading investors, the company operates satellites in Low Earth Orbit to collect solar energy and enable new capabilities—from powering on-orbit compute to transmitting energy via infrared lasers and delivering secure, high-bandwidth optical data.
As a Powerpack Engineer Level III, you will own the design, fabrication, build, and test performance of turbopump components and assemblies from concept through hot-fire testing and flight qualification. The turbopump is the heart of the engine and sets its performance ceiling; this role puts your name on flight hardware.
Key responsibilities include: owning mechanical design of turbopump components and assemblies (CAD models, design definitions, tolerances, GD&T, material and process specifications); integrating constraints from hydro, aero, structures, secondary flow, and thermals into coherent designs; controlling configuration and pedigree across build, test, and refurbishment cycles; driving hardware through manufacturing and assembly (fabrication, first-article review, nonconformance disposition); independently building verification plans and deciding what gets proven by analysis versus testing; ensuring test readiness and performing real-time support during component and engine tests; and independently troubleshooting anomalies, running root cause investigations to closure, and folding corrective actions back into design.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering; proficiency in 3D CAD and producing released, manufacturable design definitions with sound GD&T and tolerance stack-ups; working knowledge of turbomachinery fundamentals; hands-on experience with hardware from design through build and test; experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes for high-stress, high-cycle applications; U.S. citizenship or equivalent immigration status.
Preferred qualifications: 5+ years of turbomachinery or turbopump experience; Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field; experience with liquid rocket engine turbopumps or reusable propulsion systems; detailed design and analysis of fluid systems (impellers, diffusers, volutes, turbines, secondary flow), dynamic seals, and structures; leadership of root cause investigations; cryogenic hardware design experience; familiarity with multiple manufacturing methods (additive, forgings, castings); experience at fast-moving hardware-focused startups; track record of picking up unfamiliar problems quickly.
