Cowboy Space Corp. is building orbital infrastructure to power and connect the space economy. Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt (Robinhood co-founder) and backed by leading investors, the company operates satellites in Low Earth Orbit that collect sunlight and enable on-orbit compute, energy transmission via infrared lasers, and secure optical data delivery.
As a Powerpack Engineer Level II, you will own the mechanical design and lifecycle of turbopump components—from concept through hot fire testing and flight operations. This is a hands-on role where your hardware goes from raw materials to orbit with your name on it.
Key responsibilities include: designing turbopump components and subassemblies with full CAD models, design definitions, tolerances, GD&T, and material/process specifications; integrating constraints from hydro, aero, structures, secondary flow, and thermals into coherent designs; controlling configuration and pedigree across build, test, and refurbishment cycles; driving hardware through manufacturing including fabrication and first article review; and providing real-time support during component and engine tests.
You will own the argument that your hardware meets requirements, determining which requirements are closed by analysis versus test validation. You'll work cross-functionally to resolve nonconformances and support anomaly investigations.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering; proficiency in 3D CAD and GD&T; working knowledge of turbomachinery fundamentals; hands-on experience taking designs through build and test; familiarity with material and manufacturing process selection for high-stress applications; U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
Preferred: 2+ years turbomachinery/turbopump design experience; Master's or Ph.D.; experience with liquid rocket engine turbopumps or reusable propulsion systems; detailed design of fluid components and dynamic seals; root cause investigation experience; cryogenic hardware design; multiple manufacturing methods; fast-moving hardware startup experience.
