Anthropic is seeking a Policy Analyst to join its Policy Development team, which translates technical AI safety insights into workable policy ideas for governing frontier AI systems. This role sits at the intersection of technical AI safety research and policy development, requiring someone who can move fluidly between deep technical detail and the practical realities of how policy gets made.
You will drive work on technical and cross-lab safety practices, deepen Anthropic's contributions to frontier AI legislation, and develop novel technical governance ideas that you pressure-test with researchers before carrying them into formal policy proposals. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing technical safety best practices and standards for frontier AI development, working closely with policy, research, and safeguards teams
- Supporting cross-lab discussions and serving as Anthropic's representative in key standards initiatives and industry groups
- Reviewing and providing substantive input on federal, state, and global frontier AI safety bills, with focus on risk reporting, independent evaluation, and incident reporting frameworks
- Collaborating with external affairs teams to strengthen Anthropic's frontier AI legislative strategy
- Contributing research and analysis on pacing workstreams, including developing novel policy proposals addressing AI R&D acceleration challenges
- Engaging with the external AI safety and governance community to track emerging thinking and integrate it into Anthropic's policy work
- Writing clear memos and briefings that help leadership align on strategic decisions
You will work closely with policy colleagues, research teams, alignment specialists, safety experts, and legal counsel. The role requires comfort with ambiguity and the ability to own projects end-to-end.

- Clear writing for researchers, leadership, and policymakers
- Ability to quickly pick up new technical topics and translate them to the broader policy landscape
- Comfort with ambiguity and end-to-end project ownership
Preferred qualifications:
- Interest in standards work and broader technical governance agenda
- Direct experience in an AI governance or safety research organization or frontier lab
- Experience working with standards bodies or industry consortia
- Experience developing and shaping technical legislation
- Published novel policy thinking on AI governance
