Tripadvisor is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead the Experiences organization (Viator), the world's leading marketplace for travel experiences with 400,000+ offerings. This is a second-line leadership role managing multiple Engineering Managers and their teams.
You will build and lead a high-performing technical team through hiring, training, and mentoring engineers at all levels. You'll foster a collaborative, innovative culture while championing effective Agile development processes. Responsibilities include developing project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation strategies to ensure on-time, on-scope, on-budget delivery.
As a hands-on technical leader, you'll perform code and design reviews across multiple layers of the software and data stack. You'll work closely with principal engineers to drive technology strategy and roadmap aligned with organizational vision, and collaborate with Product Managers and business owners to balance product features with engineering robustness.
You'll communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, define and enforce engineering best practices, and be directly responsible for performance feedback and formal career planning for your team. The role requires strong mentorship skills, solid understanding of modern technologies, and proven ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions.
The position operates on a remote-first model with periodic in-person gatherings at the Kraków office for team connection and collaboration. Candidates should be within commutable distance (generally up to 1.5 hours) from the Kraków office.
Required: 10+ years commercial software development experience, proven track record as a second-line leader managing Engineering Managers, background in product-focused companies, strong mentorship and analytical skills, hands-on experience designing scalable high-performance systems, and ability to balance business objectives with engineering capabilities.
