Revolut is seeking a Platform Engineer (Java) to contribute to core backend systems that power its global financial super app serving 75+ million customers. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on building and scaling foundational infrastructure—from event stores to transactional systems—that multiple engineering teams depend on across the organization. You will work on high-throughput, concurrent systems at production scale, solving problems that span multiple teams. Your responsibilities include building and scaling core systems, writing performant backend code, collaborating on system design with peers, and reviewing code to help other engineers. The role emphasizes meaningful impact: improvements at the platform layer compound across the entire engineering organization. The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend engineering experience with production fluency in Java (or another backend language with readiness to transition to Java). You should have a track record of building core systems or foundational platforms that other engineers built on, plus meaningful experience with distributed systems at scale. A bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar field is required. Strong communication and organizational skills, fluency in English, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment are essential. Nice-to-have qualifications include fintech or high-volume transactional environment experience, startup/scale-up background, production event sourcing, and open-source contributions to frameworks or developer tooling. Revolut offers a multicultural, inclusive workplace and has been certified as a Great Place to Work. The company emphasizes diversity and encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds. The role is based in Barcelona with flexibility for remote work in select European locations (France, Germany, Poland, Porto, Portugal, Serbia, Silesia, Spain) or hybrid arrangements at other offices (Dubai, Krakow, Lisbon, London, Madrid).
