Lyric is an enterprise AI platform built specifically for supply chains. The company helps Fortune 500 organizations (including Smurfit WestRock, Estée Lauder, Coca-Cola) optimize networks, allocate inventory, schedule routes, and build supply chain decision intelligence through a combination of out-of-the-box AI solutions and a flexible, composable platform. As a Platform Engineer - Backend, you will build the core backend infrastructure that powers Lyric's product teams and AI agents. You'll own platform capabilities end-to-end: from problem definition and design through production and iteration. Your work will span core platform services and the agentic layer, including the framework for building and orchestrating agents. Key responsibilities: - Design and own platform capabilities end-to-end, from ambiguous problem to production behavior - Build reusable services, APIs, and execution patterns that other teams depend on - Architect data models, handle concurrency and failure scenarios, optimize performance, and implement observability - Work on production agent loops, tool integration, orchestration, and the experiences built on top - Debug complex systems and evolve them based on production learnings The company hires at Senior and Staff levels based on demonstrated scope, not title. You'll work in a startup environment with hands-on ownership and clear communication expected when the path isn't prescribed. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong fundamentals in problem decomposition, data structures, low-level design, and debugging - Demonstrated experience building and owning production systems, including understanding what broke and how they evolved - Deep understanding of APIs, databases, and system behavior below the framework layer (exact stack match matters less than conceptual depth) - Startup experience and hands-on ownership style - Clear communication skills, especially when navigating ambiguous problems Good to have: - Experience with developer platforms, workflow orchestration, or services with many downstream consumers - Knowledge of agent evaluation, tracing, tool integration, or cost controls - Python depth
