Salary: USD 123,250 - 166,750 / annual
Defense Unicorns is seeking a Platform Engineer to support mission-critical software delivery for U.S. government and defense customers. In this role, you will deploy and manage Unclassified Data Systems (UDS) environments across AWS EKS, Azure AKS, and on-premises Kubernetes clusters. You'll build custom UDS packages, implement Infrastructure-as-Code modules using Terraform/OpenTofu, and maintain GitOps pipelines on GitLab or GitHub.
Key responsibilities include: managing Kubernetes and Helm deployments for government-backed commercial vendors; serving as the primary technical interface for customers, providing architecture guidance and troubleshooting; developing and delivering technical training content; coordinating customer onboarding; gathering feedback to drive product improvements; and adhering to SLA commitments including on-call support for critical issues. You'll analyze operational data to identify trends, optimize delivery strategies, and collaborate cross-functionally to experiment with new tools and techniques.
Required qualifications: proven experience as a Platform Engineer with focus on system architecture; strong knowledge of hybrid cloud architectures (networking, RBAC, storage); hands-on experience with Azure AKS, AWS EKS, or on-premises Kubernetes (RKE2, K3s, OpenShift); proficiency with Helm, GitOps, and IaC tools; DevSecOps/DevOps and CI/CD pipeline experience; excellent communication and remote collaboration skills; self-motivation and ability to work independently. Preferred: DoD IAT Level II certification (Security+); existing DoD Secret or higher clearance.
This is a remote position with 10-25% travel expectations for on-site customer training and support. An active Secret clearance is required to apply.
