Volta is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform building the compute utility layer for the AI era. The company operates large-scale GPU compute infrastructure for AI workloads on a Kubernetes-native platform spanning multiple regions, delivering virtual machines, storage, and networking through a fully automated infrastructure stack.
As a Platform Engineer, you will work at the intersection of infrastructure and software development, translating product roadmap requirements, operational learnings from bring-up teams, and security guidance into durable platform capabilities. You will design and implement Kubernetes operators and controllers managing the lifecycle of platform resources, working closely with product teams to turn requirements into scalable platform features.
Key responsibilities include: designing and implementing Kubernetes operators and controllers; collaborating with product and bring-up teams to identify pain points and build scalable solutions; integrating security guidance into platform-level controls; treating observability as a platform concern with meaningful metrics and tooling; owning services in production including on-call rotation and incident response; maintaining clean interfaces and disciplined versioning practices; and participating in code review and cross-team collaboration.
Depending on your team and background, you may specialize in control plane and APIs, compute lifecycle management, storage provisioning and reliability, confidential computing capabilities, or customer-facing services.
You bring 3-5 years of software engineering experience with meaningful time on infrastructure or platform systems. You have strong backend or systems programming experience in production environments (Python, Go, Rust, or similar compiled/object-oriented languages). You understand Kubernetes internals deeply: control loops, CRDs, controllers, operators, and reliable reconciliation logic. You are comfortable working close to the infrastructure layer with solid Linux, networking, and distributed systems knowledge. You have designed, built, and versioned production-grade APIs that other teams depend on, with disciplined handling of breaking changes. You operate what you build, debugging production systems and participating in on-call or incident response. You demonstrate strong engineering fundamentals: clean code, testing, version control, code review, and CI/CD practices.
