Supabase is hiring an experienced Performance Engineer to build and own the benchmarking and profiling systems that drive performance measurement across the company. You'll join a newly-formed performance team as one of its first members, working alongside a seasoned performance engineer with the team growing to roughly six people this year.
In this role, you'll design and build benchmarking, profiling, and load-testing tooling for cloud, database, and end-to-end systems. You'll define benchmark suites and reference workloads that reflect real customer behavior, establish performance baselines and regression gates across products, and create mechanisms that turn benchmark results into actionable insights for product teams. You'll partner closely with database teams (including Multigres and OrioleDB) to identify bottlenecks and land concrete performance improvements.
Key responsibilities include building continuous benchmarking infrastructure so product teams can spot regressions early—ideally running benchmarks directly on PRs or locally during development. You'll analyze and eliminate issues with load generators, workloads, and benchmark environments to ensure reliability. You'll build regression triage tooling that pinpoints what changed through diffing, profiles, traces, and query-level attribution. You'll also enable product teams to self-serve performance testing and make performance a first-class engineering concern.
You should have deep experience in performance engineering, benchmarking, and profiling of complex distributed systems, with a track record of owning benchmarking systems where reproducibility and variance control mattered. Strong systems intuition across databases, storage, networking, and cloud infrastructure is essential. You're comfortable working across product, infra, and database teams with a pragmatic, tooling-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.
