9fin is an AI platform powering global debt markets, centralizing proprietary credit data, analysis, and workflows for 300+ blue-chip institutions including global banks, asset managers, private equity firms, and law firms. The company is scaling rapidly with strong product-market fit and global market pull.
You will be the People Operations Lead for 9fin's Belfast office, setting the standard for how People Ops runs locally while owning the complete workplace experience. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the People Operations Manager, partnering closely with the London People Operations Lead, London Workplace Manager, and cross-functional teams in Talent, People Partners, Legal, and Finance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operational Excellence: Own day-to-day People Operations for Belfast, managing the full employee lifecycle (joiners, leavers, changes, probation, right-to-work, background screening, leave and absence) with high standards for accuracy, timeliness, and employee experience.
- Compliance & Audit-Readiness: Ensure 9fin complies with UK employment law and statutory requirements. Maintain audit-ready records, run periodic control checks, flag risks early, and partner with Legal on employment law changes.
- Policy & Handbook: Own Northern Ireland-specific policies, handbook annexes, and local variations reflecting NI employment law and practice. Contribute to the wider UK handbook and ensure Belfast guidance is current and used.
- Strategic Project Leadership: Lead one or two major People Ops projects per cycle end-to-end—scoping, stakeholder alignment, delivery, and impact measurement. Examples include workplace improvements, early careers outreach, and benefits redesign.
- Workflows & Automations: Design and build workflows and automations reducing manual work across the employee lifecycle. Identify what should be templated, automated, or redesigned entirely.
- Workplace Ownership: Own the Belfast office experience end-to-end—office operations, facilities and supplier relationships, health and safety, in-office events, hybrid working experience, and day-one joiner logistics. Partner with the London Workplace Manager on standards, budget, and cross-office consistency.
- Complex Casework: Work with People Partners on sensitive Belfast people situations—complex leave, contract variations, investigations support—with strong judgment on risk, employee experience, and commercial context.
- People Data & Insight: Build reporting and dashboards leadership uses. Present operational recommendations backed by data to the People Operations Manager, Head of People, and wider business.
- Budget Partnership: Support the People Operations Manager on Belfast sub-team budget—scoping future spend, analyzing current spend, articulating ROI, and making recommendations.
The company operates on a hybrid model. From January 2027, all employees work from their designated 9fin office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; the rest of the week is flexible.
Benefits include competitive salary (benchmarked at the top end of market), equity options, pension matching up to 7%, private medical insurance, paid sick leave with income protection, group life assurance, 25 holiday days plus local public holidays, ability to work abroad up to 3 months annually, 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years, enhanced parental leave, flexible working, professional learning and development budget, and regular team and company social events.
Requirements:
- 5+ years in People Operations / HR Operations in a scaling company, with meaningful ownership of both process design and hands-on delivery
- Deep working knowledge of UK employment law and compliance
- Strong track record of writing and rolling out policies that hold up in practice
- Demonstrated ability to lead People Ops projects end-to-end (scoping, stakeholder alignment, delivery, measurement)
- Comfort designing workflows and automations that meaningfully reduce manual work
- Experience owning workplace, office, or facilities operations, or clear appetite to add this to your remit
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to build systems that catch issues
- Comfortable being the go-to person: briefs seniors, unblocks peers, represents People and Workplace function credibly in cross-functional forums
- Bias to build: prefer designing processes to inheriting them
