Town is an applied AI company building a persistent AI assistant that helps professionals create and use software across their everyday work tools (email, calendar, docs, Slack, CRM). The assistant observes, learns, and acts proactively without waiting to be prompted. The company recently raised a $55M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Forerunner Ventures, First Round Capital, Alt Capital, and Conviction. Founders Jean-Denis and Tony previously led EPD at Plaid and applied AI product at Google. You will own People Operations end-to-end at Town, building the function from the ground up to support growth through 100 employees. This is a build role with significant latitude to design how the function operates. You'll work directly with the Head of Talent, Finance, outside counsel, and both founders. Key responsibilities include: - Own onboarding end-to-end, from signed offer letter through 90-day ramp - Run Rippling as the system of record for payroll, benefits enrollment, employment data hygiene, and audits - Own HR compliance: employment policy, state registrations, leave administration, 401(k) and Form 5500, and reporting obligations - Run immigration end-to-end with outside counsel (H-1B transfers, E-3s, green card timelines) - Serve as first stop for employee questions on benefits, pay, leave, and policy; handle sensitive issues with discretion - Automate repetitive work using Town's own AI tools and agents to reduce manual effort A unique aspect of this role is the opportunity to use Town's cutting-edge, beta-version AI tools on your own workflows, experiencing firsthand how the product can eliminate manual People Ops work. Requirements: - Experience in People Ops or HR at a high-growth startup, ideally with experience building the function from scratch (not inheriting an existing one) - Hands-on experience with HRIS systems and strong opinions on configuration - Exceptional organizational skills with a bias toward automating repetitive, behind-the-scenes work - Ability to handle confidential information with total discretion and steady judgment - Must be based in San Francisco and willing to work in office five days per week
