webAI is building a distributed AI platform that brings computation to the edge, enabling secure and private AI deployment on consumer hardware without relying on centralized servers. The company's mission centers on keeping data and intellectual property private while scaling large AI models across heterogeneous environments.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and implement advanced synchronization and networking systems for reliable AI operations across edge devices, cloud-isolated systems, and resource-constrained environments. Your work will focus on backend systems development using Rust, architecting robust data synchronization frameworks leveraging content-addressable storage, Merkle trees, CRDTs, and erasure coding.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement secure, distributed networking systems for AI infrastructure
- Architect data synchronization frameworks using advanced distributed systems patterns
- Lead performance tuning and optimization for resource-constrained and intermittently-connected environments
- Apply security-first design principles including threat modeling, cryptographic integration, and secure key management
- Collaborate with MLOps, Infrastructure, and Security teams on system deployment and integration
- Contribute to architectural design discussions and documentation
- Maintain rigorous testing, observability, and validation practices
You should have 5+ years of backend systems experience (C++, C, Go, or Rust) and demonstrated expertise with peer-to-peer or decentralized networking frameworks. While Rust is the primary development language, the company supports engineers ramping up on it during the role. Experience with IPFS, torrents, or similar content-distribution systems is highly valued; blockchain experience is less relevant despite conceptual overlap.
The role offers competitive salary, comprehensive health/dental/vision benefits, 401(k) matching, wellness stipends, continuing education support, flexible time off, and parental leave.
