Salary: USD 120,000 - 175,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts, the company is scaling rapidly from its 153,000 sq. ft. Northern California headquarters.
As a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, you will bridge design engineering, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing partners to drive printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) production with on-time delivery and high reliability standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define manufacturing readiness requirements and lead milestone reviews to ensure all stakeholder deliverables are complete
- Work with Design Engineering to identify and escalate manufacturing challenges early by enforcing Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Service (DFS) principles
- Drive closure of operational issues during pre-production builds
- Investigate failures in production, test, and integration; identify root causes and implement preventive measures
- Deliver manufacturing process capabilities including equipment qualification, quality controls, materials characterization, and workmanship standards
- Monitor product and process success through production ramp
- Provide direction to contract manufacturers, suppliers, and engineers on quarantine and rework activities
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years in PCB/PCBA fabrication facility operations
- 3+ years in supplier quality, manufacturing, or design engineering
- Hands-on experience with board assembly processes and equipment (stencil printing, SPI, pick & place, reflow, AOI, ICT, X-ray inspection)
- Experience leading Design for X (DFX) reviews
- IPC-610 certification or equivalent familiarity
- Full-time on-site presence required (5 days/week)
Bonus qualifications include Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, 7+ years PCBA/PCB supply chain experience, PLM/DFX system expertise (Mentor/Valor), FMEA experience, and knowledge of polymeric applications (conformal coating, staking, underfill).
U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required due to space technology export regulations.
