Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history. We're seeking a PCB Design Engineer to join our small team of dedicated engineers responsible for satellite design. This role focuses on designing printed circuit board assemblies optimized for medium-scale mass production, including electrical power, data handling, and sensor interfacing systems for both spacecraft and ground support equipment.
You will own the layout design of RF/Microwave, power, microprocessor, high-speed interface, and mixed-signal PCBs for satellite applications, working in concert with electrical design engineers. Key responsibilities include collaborating with design engineers and supply chain to manage PCB design in Altium, coordinating with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, high-reliability PCB assemblies meeting IPC standards, and generating fabrication and assembly packages including drawings and design templates.
Additional duties include creating and managing parts entries (footprints and schematic symbols) in the Altium database parts library, partnering with electrical design engineers to manage subcontractors performing PCB layouts and reviewing their outputs, and selecting PCB materials and fabrication processes. You'll work with complex high-speed digital, analog, RF and Microwave PCB designs and interface with manufacturing partners to ensure quality production.
This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our San Francisco office. The position requires access to export-controlled information and contingent upon ability to access applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing.
