Base is a next-generation power company deploying distributed battery networks to transform the electrical grid. The Payroll & Equity Administrator role owns two critical functions end-to-end: payroll processing and equity administration. Key Responsibilities: - Process payroll every cycle for Base's full employee population, handling multi-state complexity and hourly/field-team variations. - Prepare payroll journal entries, departmental and cost-center allocations, and reconcile payroll to the general ledger each period. - Administer Base's equity program comprehensively: process new grants, track vesting schedules, process exercises, and maintain cap table and option ledger accuracy. - Lead the transition from the current equity administration process to a new platform, including data migration, testing, and employee-facing rollout. - Own stock-based compensation accounting: expense recognition, forfeitures, modifications, and early exercise accounting treatment. - Answer employee questions on pay, equity grants, and vesting with clear, accurate information. - Build standard operating procedures and controls around payroll and equity administration to enable scaling without proportional headcount growth. You'll collaborate closely with the accounting team on period-end entries, the People team on new hires/terminations/comp changes, and Finance on equity grants and cap table questions. Base is a high-growth startup with a fully in-person team. The finance and business operations function is responsible for providing visibility on performance, financing growth, capital allocation, and supporting operational decisions. The role may expand or change based on business needs. Requirements: - 3–6+ years in payroll and/or equity administration, ideally both, at a high-growth company. - Hands-on experience processing payroll end-to-end, including journal entries and allocations (not just reviewing others' work). - Experience administering an equity program: grants, vesting schedules, exercises, and cap table reconciliation. Experience with equity platform migrations (e.g., Carta, Shareworks) is a strong plus. - Working knowledge of stock-based compensation accounting, including ASC 718 concepts and early exercise treatment. - High attention to detail and comfort being the final check before employee pay or equity is processed. - Discretion and ability to handle sensitive compensation and ownership data.
