Rocket Lab is seeking an experienced Payload Integration Engineer II to join the team at headquarters in Long Beach, CA. This role works under the direction of the Team Lead for Payload Integration and requires demonstrated experience in spacecraft or launch vehicle integration, systems engineering, and/or electrical/mechanical systems.
You will interface directly with spacecraft customer integration teams and perform hands-on payload integration activities for the Electron and HASTE launch vehicles. Key responsibilities include fit checks, dispenser and launch vehicle integration, on-site integration planning and coordination, development and verification of Launch Vehicle to Spacecraft Interface Control Documentation (ICD), creation and execution of assembly integration and test instructions, and customer support for technical questions.
The role requires constant collaboration with internal engineering staff regarding mechanical and electrical design needs based on mission requirements. You'll work with a multidisciplinary team and must be comfortable presenting technical solutions to both internal and external customers. The position is based in Long Beach but requires frequent travel to customer sites and launch facilities worldwide, including New Zealand and other international locations.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline with 2+ years of applicable experience, active US Government security clearance (Secret or TS/SCI), and previous launch vehicle or space hardware integration experience. You must demonstrate the ability to understand technical constraints relative to payload integration, possess advanced presentation and technical writing skills, and be willing to travel extensively.
Preferred qualifications include a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering; experience with CubeSats, SmallSats, or other small space payloads; ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings; and experience performing electrical and mechanical testing. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are valued.
