OpenAI is seeking a strategic operator to advance its life sciences capabilities and translate them into meaningful scientific and commercial impact. This role combines partnership development, strategic judgment, and hands-on execution, working closely with research teams and external partners to identify opportunities, improve AI models and products, and lead initiatives that bring AI capabilities into real scientific workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape capability priorities by working with research and cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize new life sciences capabilities, balancing scientific value, technical feasibility, and commercial potential.
- Build and execute partnerships with biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical organizations, and other life sciences ecosystem participants, including data, research, and commercial partnerships.
- Translate capabilities into real-world applications by partnering with external organizations to apply OpenAI's technology in scientific workflows, evaluate usefulness, and inform further development.
- Structure effective collaborations by working with legal, finance, research, and other teams to define partnership scope, align incentives, and navigate data access, intellectual property, commercial terms, and governance.
- Lead strategic initiatives that advance scientific capabilities and create long-term value, including licensing, joint development, and new applications of AI.
- Drive operational execution by establishing clear objectives, milestones, and ownership; coordinating resources; and resolving obstacles across internal and external teams.
- Expand access to expertise by identifying capability gaps and engaging key talent, advisors, and partners.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience developing and executing partnerships in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or closely related fields.
- Track record of turning strategic opportunities into concrete agreements and successful execution.
- Ability to engage deeply with scientific and technical teams and translate their work into clear partnership opportunities and operating plans.
- Strong commercial and financial judgment, with experience navigating complex incentives, economics, data rights, and intellectual property.
- Comfort moving between setting strategy and managing execution details.
- Ability to build trusted relationships across organizations and work effectively with partners of different sizes and stages.
- Sound judgment with incomplete information, with curiosity, discretion, and collaborative approach.
