OpenAI is seeking a Partner Applied AI Engineer to serve as a founding member of the Partner Solutions team, acting as a trusted technical advisor to systems integrators (GSIs, RSIs, boutique SIs) and their enterprise customers. This role bridges OpenAI's product capabilities with partner ecosystems, ensuring successful GenAI adoption and deployment.
You will deeply embed with systems integrators as their technical thought partner, helping them identify high-value GenAI use cases (customer service, content generation, novel applications) and build solutions on OpenAI's API. You'll work with senior SI and customer stakeholders to develop comprehensive AI roadmaps, intervene directly to accelerate time-to-value through prototyping and strategic guidance, and manage relationships to ensure successful deployment and scaling.
Key responsibilities include: serving as technical lead for SI partners; identifying and qualifying GenAI applications across industries; building hands-on prototypes and delivering strategic guidance; managing SI and customer stakeholder relationships; codifying solution packages and architectural patterns; leading technical support during initial projects and mentoring partner teams; scaling the function through knowledge sharing and best-practice documentation; and providing high-signal feedback to Product and Research teams.
You'll report to the Head of Solutions Architecture and collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Applied Research, and Product teams. The role is based in San Francisco or New York with a hybrid model (3 days in-office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of technical consulting or equivalent experience, managing C-level technical and business relationships with complex global organizations
- Led complex technical projects and programs with many stakeholders, ideally within or through a systems integrator
- Industry experience with programming languages such as Python or Javascript
- Led complex implementations of Generative AI and/or traditional ML solutions
- Built and/or delivered prototypes using the OpenAI API
- Effective presenter and communicator who can translate business and technical topics to all audiences, including senior leaders
- End-to-end problem ownership and willingness to acquire missing knowledge
- Humble attitude, eagerness to help colleagues, and commitment to team success
