Salary: USD 181,000 - 248,800 / annual
Joby Aviation is developing a Part 145 repair station at its Marina, California facility and seeks an experienced aviation maintenance leader to serve as Accountable Manager. In this role, you will be designated under 14 CFR 145.151(a) and named on the repair station certificate as the person responsible for and with authority over all repair station operations conducted under Part 145.
This is a foundational leadership position that will establish Joby's global Part 145 strategy, build the business plan to support it, and own execution from initial concept through operation. You will hold full P&L accountability for the repair station, shaping where and how Joby maintains aircraft worldwide and turning strategic vision into a scalable, financially sound, compliant repair network.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the Accountable Manager for Joby's Part 145 repair station with full authority and responsibility for all operations
- Establish and maintain overall capability, infrastructure, and organizational framework for the global component off-wing repair station, including defining initial repair capabilities, scope, facilities, tooling, equipment, technical data, and support systems
- Ensure qualified personnel and management structure are in place to safely and compliantly execute on-wing and off-wing maintenance, repair, and overhaul
- Develop and integrate required processes, procedures, quality controls, and regulatory approvals into the repair station's operating system
- Serve as primary point of contact with the FAA, including the Principal Maintenance Inspector, for all Part 145 certificate matters
- Maintain oversight of the repair station certificate, Operations Specifications, ratings, limitations, and approved capabilities
- Coordinate with Chief Inspector on quality control systems, including Required Inspection Items (RII) and return-to-service functions
- Coordinate with Maintenance Training leadership to ensure the repair station's training program meets Part 145 requirements
- Align Part 145 repair capability with the needs of Joby's Part 135 fleet and S4 flight test program
- Build, staff, and scale the Part 145 organization as ratings and capabilities expand
- Drive a strong safety and compliance culture at every level
- Establish and maintain effective internal surveillance, audit, corrective-action, root-cause, and continuous-improvement processes
- Ensure compliance with drug and alcohol testing requirements for safety-sensitive maintenance functions
Requirements:
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate with strong working knowledge of Part 145 regulations, or a degree in a related technical discipline
- Eligibility to serve as the Accountable Manager under 14 CFR 145.151(a) and 14 CFR 145.3(a)
- 10+ years of experience in aviation maintenance (on-wing and off-wing)
- 5+ years in a leadership role managing maintenance teams and leaders
- Strong experience with on-wing and off-wing repair programs and regulatory requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities, including flexible hours as required
- Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills
Desired qualifications:
- Advanced degree, preferably an MBA
- Prior experience serving as an Accountable Manager, Chief Inspector, or Repair Station Manager at a Part 145 repair station
- Experience standing up a new Part 145 repair station certificate or adding ratings to an existing one
- Prior experience in a Part 119 role at a Part 135 or Part 121 airline
- Experience in an eVTOL, electric aircraft, or advanced aerospace development environment
- Familiarity with FAA Part 135 commercial operations and their interface with a supporting Part 145 repair station
