Atticus is a Series C healthtech platform that helps Americans access government benefits and insurance compensation. The company has raised over $100M from top VCs and has helped hundreds of thousands of people access over $10 billion in aid.
As a Paralegal, you'll work directly with clients in crisis—people seeking disability benefits or insurance compensation—guiding them through complex legal and administrative processes. Your responsibilities blend traditional paralegal work with startup operator responsibilities.
Day-to-day work includes: interviewing clients and analyzing medical records to build persuasive cases for disability benefits; coordinating with local representatives and government agencies to resolve missing documentation; drafting legal memos and case strategy materials; and taking ownership of workflow improvements that impact the team's efficiency.
This role is unique in that it combines client-facing legal work with cross-functional collaboration. You might help Marketing identify compelling client testimonials, user-test new product features with the Product team, or redesign internal processes that are slowing case progression.
The role is positioned as a launchpad: you can advance within Atticus's Representation Lab team, or use the experience as a stepping stone to law school or business school (the company provides application support and strong recommendations).
Required qualifications: substantial professional experience in client-facing or lawyer-facing roles (case management, paralegal work, or similar); resourcefulness and comfort in a scrappy startup environment; strong interpersonal skills—empathy for people in crisis and professionalism with attorneys; demonstrated commitment to social impact.
Bonus: prior experience with government benefits applications or work in a fast-paced startup environment.
The company is a certified B Corporation with strong mission alignment. Fully remote with quarterly travel to LA for in-person collaboration and company offsites. Competitive benefits include full premium medical/dental coverage, 15 vacation days plus ~20 paid holidays, OneMedical membership, education stipend, student loan repayment assistance, and equity for all employees.
