xAI is seeking an OT (Operational Technology) Systems Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain backend infrastructure for next-generation hyperscale AI supercomputer campuses. This role sits within the Supercomputer Physical Infrastructure team and bridges operational technology with IT expertise to support mission-critical cooling, power, and facility control systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and deploying OT environments supporting cooling plants, electrical distribution, liquid-cooling loops, on-site generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and data hall infrastructure across the Memphis/Southaven campus and future expansion sites. You will install, configure, and maintain industry-standard controls platforms (BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC) alongside internally developed HMIs. The role requires integrating IT technologies—virtualization, VDI, GitOps, network redundancy, and edge compute—to create scalable, secure industrial control system (ICS) environments for ultra-dense AI compute.
You will deploy and maintain development, test, and staging environments to enable controlled change management on live critical systems, provide direct support during cluster bring-up and capacity expansions, and perform systems upgrades and maintenance during off-peak windows (including evenings/weekends). Proactive monitoring, rapid incident response, and automation using infrastructure-as-code and DevOps practices are core to the role. You will collaborate with controls, mechanical, electrical, and IT engineers; work with vendors and integrators; and ensure compliance with industry standards (Purdue Model, IEC 62443).
