Salary: USD 130,000 - 155,000 / annual
Infleqtion is commercializing atom-based quantum computing products for sensing and computing applications. Within the Quantum Computing Product Group's Hardware Engineering Team, this role focuses on designing and realizing precision opto-mechanical subsystems that underpin scalable, high-performance quantum hardware.
You will work on opto-mechanical subsystems and components supporting lasers, optics, vacuum-integrated components, sensors, photodetectors, DMDs, SLMs, AODs, and EOMs. Key responsibilities include:
• Design precision opto-mechanical components and assemblies, identifying and escalating technical risks, trade-offs, and constraints
• Collaborate with physicists and cross-disciplinary engineers (optical, mechanical, electrical, software, systems) throughout the hardware development lifecycle from research demonstrations to integrated, scalable systems
• Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles early in the product lifecycle
• Perform hands-on root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and laboratory subsystem assembly
• Execute high-fidelity opto-mechanical simulations and experimental characterization strategies to understand optical stability, drift, noise sources, and scaling limits—from back-of-envelope calculations to detailed FEA including tolerance stack-ups, thermal behavior, structural stiffness, and vibration sensitivity
• Support transition of opto-mechanical subsystems from research-grade to repeatable, maintainable, scalable hardware
• Advance best practices for optical design workflows, laboratory procedures, documentation, and version control
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field; hands-on experience with optical alignment and laboratory work; SolidWorks proficiency; strong experimental rigor and documentation habits; willingness to learn Zemax/OpticsStudio.

Work is performed in office and laboratory environments around technical equipment including computers and lasers. Up to 10% travel may be required. Position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws (EAR/ITAR); employment offer may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software/technology without sponsorship for export license.
