Airspace is a tech-enabled freight forwarder specializing in time-critical logistics for mission-critical packages—organs for transplant, aircraft parts, semiconductors, and other highly sensitive cargo. The company leverages AI, machine learning, and patented technology to coordinate logistics across a global network of drivers and airlines. Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, with European operations in Amsterdam, Airspace has raised over $140M and is recognized as one of America's best startup employers and a CNBC Disruptor 50 company. As an Operations Specialist III, you will be the deepest problem-solver on your ops team—the person trusted to resolve the hardest issues in the queue without defaulting to escalation. You will independently handle escalated problems using available resources, assist teammates in resolving their escalations, and anticipate problems before they surface. You will make critical margin and cost tradeoffs, understanding the relationship between margin and total cost for orders and applying that knowledge to approval decisions. You will balance speed, cost, and customer impact when making decisions—for example, choosing a carrier based on service reliability and error-rate history rather than speed or price alone. You will maintain deep, practiced knowledge of trade, regulatory, and compliance requirements relevant to your assigned sector. You will set the standard for your team by serving as the go-to resource on sector-specific process nuance and edge cases, flagging SOP gaps and suggesting improvements to your supervisor, upholding team expectations through example, and maintaining any certifications required for your sector while staying current on compliance requirements. You will assist teammates with certification and compliance questions. You are expected to maintain minimal to no errors or service failures, make sound decisions under pressure, and meet customer service standards appropriate for this level. Specific metrics vary by sector and will be communicated by your direct supervisor. The role requires 2 weeks of in-person training at Airspace's Carlsbad, CA headquarters. REQUIREMENTS: - Demonstrated success as an Operations Specialist II or equivalent experience independently resolving complex, time-critical logistics escalations - Working knowledge of margin and cost tradeoffs, with comfort applying that knowledge to real-time approval decisions - Deep, near-expert familiarity with trade, regulatory, and compliance requirements relevant to your assigned sector - Track record of coaching or supporting less-tenured teammates through difficult issues - Sound judgment under pressure, with a track record of getting ahead of problems rather than reacting to them - Willingness to obtain additional certifications where applicable within your sector - Available for 2 weeks of training in person on-site in Carlsbad, CA headquarters
