Via is a transportation technology platform transforming public transit systems into smart, data-driven networks serving hundreds of agency partners globally. As Operations Manager, you'll lead daily onsite operations for a transit service, ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for riders.
You'll manage real-time operational decisions across fleet management, driver supply, compliance, and rider needs. This is a high-ownership, boots-on-the-ground role requiring 4-5 days per week onsite in Elmira. Key responsibilities include running daily service operations, making informed decisions about fleet and driver allocation, guiding and supporting drivers through relationship-building, converting rider and community feedback into operational improvements, leveraging data and technology to diagnose problems and enhance efficiency, and serving as the operational bridge between city partners, drivers, and Via central teams.
You bring operationally-focused experience in people management, logistics, customer service, or process-oriented work. You're relationship-oriented, earning trust through clear communication and follow-through. You're hands-on and proactive, preferring field-based problem-solving. You balance tactical issue resolution with strategic long-term thinking. You're mission-driven by expanding transportation access and improving community mobility.
Critically, you possess deep understanding of fixed-route transit challenges including time-point adherence, breakdown escalations, and run scheduling logistics for large-scale operations. You're comfortable working around Class B/Class A vehicles (35-45 foot coach buses) and understand associated safety, maintenance, and maneuvering requirements. You have a proven track record managing and retaining professional CDL drivers, emphasizing safety and DOT/FMCSA compliance while maintaining morale in high-pressure, scheduled environments. You're able to commute to the Elmira area consistently.
