Salary: USD 143,000 - 201,000 / annual

Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, is seeking an Operations and Automation Engineer to join the Engineering team. You will be at the forefront of satellite and specialty sensing operations, ensuring seamless functioning, monitoring, and maintenance of the company's LEO satellite fleet in space. In this role, you will design and implement automation solutions for spacecraft and ground station operations, enabling flawless execution of simultaneous missions with a small team of operators. You will collaborate with engineers across all disciplines to execute satellite operation plans and maintain continuity of satellite services. Key responsibilities include analyzing telemetry data and satellite health reports to assess system performance and identify potential issues, troubleshooting and resolving anomalies and system malfunctions to restore satellite functionality promptly, and planning and coordinating satellite maneuvers including orbit corrections and station-keeping to optimize satellite positions and performance. You will also support the integration of new satellites into the fleet and ensure smooth transitions from launch to operational phase. Muon Space designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations delivering mission-critical data for applications ranging from climate monitoring to national security. The company operates a state-of-the-art facility in Silicon Valley optimized for manufacturing spacecraft and rapid, flexible payload integration at scale. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience - 5+ years of project or industry experience operating or automating complex systems - Experience with Python, Julia, or another high-level scripting language - Strong communication and teamwork abilities with collaborative problem-solving approach - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure - Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS: - Experience automating complex systems - Operations experience with spacecraft, ground stations, or other complex communication systems - Strong understanding of satellite subsystems (power, propulsion, communication, payload) - Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in satellite operations, including ITU and FCC regulations NOTE: This position requires access to export-controlled information and ITAR/EAR compliance.
