The Exploration Company is developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle designed for cargo transport and eventual human missions. As a System Functional Engineer, you will lead the maturation of the propulsion fluid system from preliminary to detailed design and qualification. You will own functional analysis of the fluid system assembly, using advanced simulation tools like EcosimPro and Python-based codes to model propulsive system performance. Your work will directly drive design maturity, ensuring the system remains compliant, traceable, and safe as it progresses toward detailed design. Key responsibilities include: - Conducting fluid system functional analysis and leading your own analysis tasks using advanced simulation frameworks - Contributing to propulsion system architecture trade studies, evaluating concepts across performance, mass, operations, cost, and reliability/safety dimensions - Developing and maintaining functional performance models, validating them against test data - Planning and executing the verification and validation plan for the fluid subsystem, including analysis and test campaigns - Supporting failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to ensure architecture meets reliability and safety targets - Contributing to functional requirements for subsystems such as valves and tanks based on propulsion system analyses - Supporting ground platform designs, flight simulations, sensitivity analyses, and risk assessments You will work primarily at the Bordeaux headquarters with occasional travel to the Munich office. The role requires a Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related field, with proven experience developing and analyzing 0D-1D fluid simulation models. Deep understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and compressible flow is essential. Experience with storable propulsion systems is a plus. The ideal candidate combines hands-on problem-solving with strong collaboration skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the capability to work autonomously while engaging productively with remote teams. You should communicate effectively across multidisciplinary audiences and thrive in a fast-moving, innovative environment.
