ByteDance's Infrastructure Networking team is seeking a Network Engineer to help plan, design, implement, operate, and optimize the company's global backbone network infrastructure across all major continents. This role sits within a team responsible for hyperscale data-center networking solutions that power TikTok and other ByteDance products serving hundreds of millions of users worldwide.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, designing, implementing, and optimizing ByteDance's global backbone network across multiple continents
- Collaborating with network architecture, SDN, and tools platform teams to improve network scalability, resource utilization, and operational efficiency
- Working across multiple time zones to ensure continuous 24/7 global network operations
- Partnering with the NOC (Network Operations Center) team to support day-to-day operations, respond to network incidents, and manage service restoration during failures
- Travel up to 15-30% of the time as needed
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong understanding of network protocols: TCP/IP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, and MPLS technologies
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating wide-area networks (WAN) using mainstream vendor equipment (Cisco, Arista, Juniper, H3C, Nokia, etc.)
- Self-motivated with strong communication and written skills
Preferred qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of backbone traffic engineering (RSVP-TE, SRTE-MPLS, SRv6)
- QoS (Quality of Service) technologies and WAN implementations
- Controller-based software-defined networking (SDN) expertise
- Programming/scripting experience in Python or similar languages
