Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing cryptocurrency exchanges with over 10 million users, is seeking a Network Engineer to join its Core Infrastructure Engineering team. This is a hands-on, strategic role responsible for designing, building, securing, and operating the network and data-center infrastructure that powers Kraken's global platform.
The role spans four core disciplines: build, secure, operate, and automate. You will design and construct data centers end-to-end—including cages, racks, power distribution, structured cabling, and hardware installation. You'll deliver connectivity solutions through circuits, dark fiber, and dedicated internet access (DIA), coordinating with carriers and vendors on cross-connects and capacity planning. You'll stand up and evolve modern data-center fabrics such as Cisco ACI and HPE Juniper Apstra.
Security is central to this position. You will design, implement, and defend a zero-trust, defense-in-depth network architecture with firewalls at the core, implementing enterprise network access controls (RBAC, least-privilege segmentation), and partnering with Engineering and IT Security to ensure security is built into features from the start.
Operationally, you'll serve as a first responder to a high volume of infrastructure requests—provisioning, access, connectivity, and troubleshooting—while monitoring and maintaining physical infrastructure, cloud environments, and remote sites. You'll respond to critical incidents to maximize uptime.
Automation is a key expectation. You'll manage and deploy infrastructure-as-code at scale, build team tooling to reduce toil, and write high-quality policies and documentation.
Required: 2+ years of network engineering with a security-minded approach; hands-on firewall experience (Palo Alto Networks/PAN-OS/Panorama); data-center and physical infrastructure work (racking, cabling, power, cross-connects); working knowledge of switching (VLANs, capacity planning) and routing (OSPF, BGP, ECMP, PBR); exposure to public cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid connectivity; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible); comfort with VPN/remote-access; and a valid passport for international travel.
Nice-to-haves include data-center design at scale, Cisco ACI/HPE Juniper Apstra expertise, deep firewall operations, AI agent/developer tooling experience, defensive security systems knowledge, and deeper cloud experience.
