Costanoa Ventures, a hands-on early-stage VC firm with over $2B in AUM, is seeking an investor focused on national security and deep tech to join their San Francisco team. The firm specializes in Seed and Series A investments across defense, robotics, and physical AI, with a portfolio including Vannevar Labs, Cape, Muon Space, Auterion, Kepler, Smack, and Lumbra.
In this role, you will source and build relationships with founders in emerging national security and deep tech spaces, identifying opportunities before the market recognizes them. You'll lead comprehensive due diligence including customer discovery, expert interviews, market mapping, competitive analysis, and financial modeling. Beyond deal sourcing, you'll actively support portfolio companies with recruiting, go-to-market strategy, and fundraising guidance, working directly alongside founders during critical early-stage growth phases.
You'll contribute to firm strategy by developing investment theses, hosting industry gatherings, improving operational systems, and challenging the team's thinking. The ideal candidate brings operating experience from early or growth-stage deep tech or defense companies, though backgrounds in startups, big tech, consulting, banking, or early-stage investing are valued. Veterans with firsthand knowledge of defense procurement, end-user requirements, and mission-critical applications are especially encouraged to apply.
