Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The MV DC Systems team is responsible for architecting the medium-voltage DC distribution systems that will power next-generation AI campuses—a frontier problem where standards are still catching up. In this role, you will architect MVDC distribution systems for gigawatt-scale campuses, making defensible choices on voltage level, topology, and grounding scheme based on fault behavior, stability, and cost. You'll own the system-level electromagnetic transient (EMT) model and lead the fault and stability analysis program that proves fully converter-interfaced networks can operate reliably, with quantified margins. You'll set the protection philosophy alongside the protection engineer and build the safety case in the gap between IEEE 1709 and emerging NEC 2026 MVDC provisions—rigorous enough to withstand Authority Having Jurisdiction review. You'll lead the DC Systems team, define its first deliverables, and maintain technical interfaces with the Solid State Transformer (SST) and facility electrical teams to ensure seamless integration. You'll drive vendor strategy for solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs), converters, and DC-rated components, and architect around ecosystem gaps where necessary. The ideal candidate brings 12+ years in power systems or power electronics with direct MVDC or HVDC system design experience—shipboard MVDC, HVDC converter stations, or grid-scale converter-dominated networks designed end-to-end. You own the system-level story: architecture, grounding, fault behavior, and stability of converter-dominated networks. You're fluent in EMT simulation tools like PSCAD/EMTDC and have used them to prove designs, not just validate them. You've built defensible safety cases ahead of immature standards and have led small technical teams. You know what evidence would kill a concept and would advocate for stopping work before capital is wasted. Bonus experience includes SSCB and DC breaker ecosystem knowledge, DC grounding and insulation coordination depth, islanded or behind-the-meter systems, or standards committee participation.
