Proxima Fusion, Europe's fastest-growing and best-funded fusion company, is seeking a Multiphysics Simulation Engineer to own the complex calculations and simulation pipelines that define the engineering requirements for Alpha, the world's first net-energy stellarator fusion reactor. In this role, you will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of simulation pipelines that translate physics assumptions into machine-defining load cases for subsystem engineering teams. You will build and maintain finite-element models and reduced-order models, define critical interfaces between simulation outputs and engineering team inputs, and conduct large-scale parameter sweeps to resolve machine-level trade-offs before design lock-in. Your core responsibilities include: developing and validating multiphysics simulators that couple plasma physics, magnets, structures, cryogenics, and heating systems; benchmarking models against analytical limits and experimental data; establishing clear interfaces with each engineering discipline on data formats, assumptions, and model limitations; and automating simulation campaigns to explore the design space efficiently. You will work within a tightly integrated engineering environment where your calculations directly drive hardware design decisions across multiple coupled disciplines. This requires not only deep technical simulation expertise but also the ability to communicate uncertainty, validate assumptions, and identify gaps before they become critical problems.
