First Due is seeking a Mobile Application Engineering Manager to lead the mobile engineering team building mission-critical software for fire and EMS agencies. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, overseeing engineers developing native iOS and Android applications that help first responders operate safer and more effectively.
You will manage a team of mobile engineers, directly responsible for hiring, mentoring, and performance management. The role requires deep technical expertise in native iOS development (Swift) with 10+ years of hands-on experience, plus 3+ years in a formal engineering management or technical lead role managing mobile engineers. Exposure to Android development (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) is essential for guiding a mixed iOS/Android team and evaluating cross-platform trade-offs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a mobile engineering team building offline-first, mission-critical applications
- Partnering with Product and PM to translate customer requirements into technical roadmaps
- Driving the team to deliver against roadmap commitments
- Establishing engineering best practices, code quality standards, and development processes
- Mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence
- Evaluating architectural decisions and technology choices
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and operations teams
You will own the technical vision for the mobile platform while building and scaling a high-performing engineering organization. The ideal candidate balances strong technical judgment with people leadership skills, can communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and has experience shipping production applications at scale.
