Play Anything is a music AI lab building tools to democratize music learning. The company has two products: Songscription, an AI-powered transcription tool that converts audio into sheet music, MIDI, or tabs; and Anything Piano, an app teaching users to play any song on piano. You will join as a Founding Mobile App Developer, leading mobile development from zero to one. This is a full-stack mobile role where you'll own the entire codebase for iOS and Android, architect core infrastructure (database, authentication, payments), and ship features rapidly while iterating based on user feedback. You'll work closely with engineering, design, and product teams to bring a new AI-native learning app to market that leverages proprietary transcription models.
As the team grows, you'll mentor junior developers and help establish engineering culture and best practices. The role emphasizes speed, product intuition, and collaboration—you'll translate product specs and design mocks into production code quickly, prototype new features, and refine them based on usage data. You'll be expected to work in-person at the San Francisco Bay Area office.
This is an early-stage opportunity where your technical decisions and product input will directly shape what gets built. The ideal candidate is a seasoned full-stack mobile developer who can architect systems, anticipate technical challenges, and guide the team through rapid iteration toward product-market fit.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of full-time mobile development experience, including shipping and maintaining consumer mobile apps with significant user bases
- Strong command of the full mobile stack: modern mobile frameworks (React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or similar), Next.js, Tailwind, backend-as-a-service platforms (Supabase strongly preferred), authentication, payments, database design, and API integration
- Deep technical knowledge and problem-solving ability; ability to teach the team new approaches and anticipate issues
- Strong product intuition and collaboration skills; ability to work fluidly with product and design teams
- Able to work in-person at San Francisco Bay Area office
- Experience playing an instrument and/or strong passion for music (bonus)
- Familiarity with music transcription and music data formats like MIDI or MusicXML (bonus)
- Experience in game development or learning software, particularly music-focused (bonus)
