Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms with over 10 million users, is seeking an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to lead financial crime compliance programmes across Payward Ltd and Payward Services Ltd, two FCA-regulated UK entities within the Kraken Group.
This is a senior strategic and operational leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for the effectiveness of anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), and sanctions controls across both entities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the AML/CTF and sanctions compliance frameworks across both regulated entities
- Develop, implement, and maintain AML/CTF policies, controls, and procedures ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements
- Manage transaction monitoring, internal and external SAR/DAML reporting
- Oversee customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), enhanced monitoring, and sanctions screening processes
- Approve all new high-risk client relationships and review outcomes of existing high-risk clients
- Maintain and regularly update business-wide financial crime risk assessments
- Provide expert advice on AML and sanctions compliance across the customer lifecycle (onboarding, periodic review, investigations)
- Coordinate internal assurance activities and support external audits and regulatory reviews
- Deliver training and awareness programmes to staff on financial crime responsibilities
- Prepare regular reporting and management information for senior management, risk committees, and the board
- Lead monthly reviews of UK corporate clients
- Produce annual MLRO report to the Board assessing the AML/CTF framework and highlighting emerging risks
- Review monthly compliance metrics to identify trends and escalate issues to the Board
- Attend Committee and Board meetings, support executive decision-making
- Lead strategic AML framework initiatives (e.g., Travel Rule implementation)
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely policy updates
- Liaise with law enforcement and regulatory authorities, including regular FCA engagement and NCA point of contact responsibilities
Requirements:
- Significant experience in AML/CTF and financial crime compliance within a regulated financial services firm
- Deep understanding of UK Money Laundering Regulations, Proceeds of Crime Act, UK sanctions regime (OFSI), and relevant industry guidance (e.g., JMLSG)
- Proven track record operating or overseeing transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and customer due diligence systems
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable policy and operational controls
- Strong communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders and represent the firm in external engagements
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and resilient with ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage competing priorities

- Significant experience in AML/CTF and financial crime compliance within a regulated cryptoasset, e-money, or payments firm
