Salary: USD 140,000 - 195,000 / annual
Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, is seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to join the Engineering team. You will be responsible for the seamless functioning, monitoring, and maintenance of Muon's fleet of LEO satellites in orbit.
Key responsibilities include executing satellite operation procedures with precision across simultaneous missions and an expanding manifest; analyzing telemetry data and satellite health reports to assess system performance and identify potential issues; troubleshooting and resolving anomalies and system malfunctions to restore satellite functionality; planning and coordinating satellite maneuvers including orbit corrections and station-keeping; and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to support new satellite integration and transition from launch to operational phase. You will also design and implement automation solutions for monitoring and maintaining satellite health and safety on orbit.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of satellite operations for a venture-backed company delivering mission-critical Earth intelligence data for climate monitoring and national security applications. The position is fully remote from an approved location.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of project or industry experience operating or automating complex systems
- Proficiency with Python, Julia, or another high-level scripting language
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities with a collaborative problem-solving approach
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure
- Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively
Nice-to-have skills:
- Experience automating complex systems
- Operations experience with spacecraft, ground stations, or other complex communication systems
- Strong understanding of satellite subsystems (power, propulsion, communication, payload)
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in satellite operations, including ITU and FCC regulations
