Citizen is the #1 safety app in the U.S., operating a live network that distributes real-time incident alerts and videos from major American cities. Mission Control is the human operations center in Manhattan where specialists verify incidents, make editorial decisions about what alerts reach the public, and determine audience scope—deciding whether a story stays local, goes citywide, or reaches national audiences. In this role, you will run shifts in Mission Control, working alongside AI agents that transcribe scanner audio, draft alert copy, and flag incidents requiring human judgment. Your core responsibilities include: - Monitoring live incident feeds from first-responder radio, user video, partner feeds, and AI-generated alerts across all markets Citizen covers - Verifying incident accuracy and flagging unconfirmed claims before they reach the public - Reviewing and correcting AI-drafted titles, updates, and push notifications to meet Citizen's editorial standards - Making audience-reach decisions for every alert: nearby, citywide, out-of-area, or national - Coordinating live coverage with field creators and partner responders when incidents warrant on-camera presence - Contributing to weekly reviews of sends and helping establish the rules Mission Control and AI agents follow Your first 90 days include a structured onboarding: shadowing all shift patterns (days 1–30), carrying your own shifts with weekly reviews (days 31–60), and owning a regular slot including weekend coverage (days 61–90). Success is measured on verification accuracy, reaching the right audience without over-amplification, maintaining editorial standards under pressure, and weekly performance reviews with the Head of Real-Time Safety Operations. This is both a public safety and editorial role. The best candidates think like dispatchers and judge copy like editors, staying calm under pressure while maintaining accuracy and refusing to amplify rumors into facts. REQUIREMENTS: No single path or degree required. Strong candidates typically come from one or more of these backgrounds: trust and safety or live moderation at scale (making rapid decisions affecting millions); 911 dispatch, EMS/fire communications, or security operations centers; newsroom assignment desks, wire services, or breaking-news operations; military or public-safety communications. Core competencies: sharp judgment under pressure, fast and accurate decision-making with obsessive attention to detail, ability to read and evaluate copy in seconds, willingness to hold standards when pressured, and deep mission alignment with public safety. Nice-to-have skills: on-camera comfort for live coverage, Spanish language proficiency, scanner fluency in major markets.
