nEye Systems is seeking a MEMS Process Engineer to join their optical switch technology team in Emeryville, CA. This role bridges chip design and manufacturing, focusing on developing and refining fabrication methodologies for advanced optical devices.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate system-level requirements into specific device designs and fabrication processes. Key responsibilities include:
• Partnering with chip design teams to understand product requirements and convert them into device designs and fabrication methodologies
• Developing and improving fabrication methodologies, exploring materials to advance optical switch technology
• Working with external vendors, technology providers, and foundries to develop, establish, and refine fabrication processes
• Running wafers through the lab and performing critical analysis on process steps
• Designing and implementing process short loops to validate and optimize fabrication approaches
• Advising and assisting wafer fab team members to collaboratively identify and solve fabrication-related issues
This is a hands-on role in a well-funded early-stage startup doing pioneering work in optical switches. You'll gain exposure to the full process development lifecycle, from inception through prototyping to production scaling.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or related technical discipline
• 3+ years hands-on experience with microfabrication methods and techniques
• Experience with Si photonics or MEMS technologies
• Experience with failure analysis, metrology, and process development
• Experience with mask design, thin film deposition and characterization, and wet/dry etching
• Experience developing and scaling processes from inception to prototyping and production
PREFERRED:
• Experience designing and executing detailed experimental protocols
• Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
• Leadership skills and strong communication for managing foundry and vendor interactions
• Proficiency with layout tools (e.g., KLayout) and introductory exposure to Process/MEMS/photonics simulation platforms (COMSOL, Ansys, Lumerical, Coventor)
