Transfyr is building physical AI systems that capture and analyze real scientific work in wet labs. The company creates high-fidelity, machine-readable records of experimental execution, helping teams learn from failures, transfer knowledge, and train the next generation of scientists. Backed by a $25M seed round with advisors including Nobel laureates and OpenAI's former Chief Product Officer, Transfyr is tackling the intersection of frontier science, perception, machine learning, and robotics. As a Software Engineer (UI/UX), you will design, build, and support the interfaces through which wet-lab biologists, lab managers, annotators, and customers interact with the Transfyr platform. The underlying data includes synchronized high-resolution video, audio, transcripts, sensor streams, protocol context, model outputs, annotations, and experimental outcomes. Your core responsibility is making that complex information clear and useful, surfacing the right signals for each user type. This is a full-stack engineering role with end-to-end design ownership. You will conduct user research, define workflows, prototype interactions, make information-architecture and visual-design decisions, write production code, and support what you ship. You are not expected to produce only wireframes or hand off implementation to another team. You will work closely with backend, perception, and AI/ML engineers on video streaming, overlays, queries, data contracts, and system performance. You may contribute beyond the browser when necessary to deliver a reliable product. Key responsibilities include: building intuitive scientific interfaces that help users understand experimental outcomes and identify deviations; creating video-data-rich experiences that integrate synchronized video, audio, transcripts, sensor data, protocol steps, model outputs, and annotations; surfacing the right queries, alerts, and confidence signals without burying scientific context; owning the experience end-to-end from user research through production and iteration; creating reliable interfaces for imperfect networks, missing streams, long recordings, and evolving model outputs; and developing a consistent visual and interaction system that makes Transfyr's interfaces clear, fast, and enjoyable. You are a hands-on, high-agency engineer who can take problems from user observation through design, production code, and iteration. You are user-focused, noticing friction and testing assumptions against how scientists actually work. You care about clarity, responsiveness, and visual craft, and you can implement your decisions. You understand how data contracts, latency, media behavior, and model uncertainty affect the interface. You are reliable, caring about testing, observability, maintainability, and supporting what you ship. You communicate clearly across technical and scientific teams and care deeply about the mission. Required experience: deep production front-end engineering with TypeScript or JavaScript and modern component frameworks such as React; strong command of information architecture, workflow design, visual hierarchy, prototyping, user research, and product judgment; and experience with complex media and data visualization.
