Transfyr is building physical AI systems that capture and record real scientific work in wet labs, turning experimental execution into high-fidelity, machine-readable data. The company helps research teams learn from failures, transfer knowledge, train scientists, and provide grounded data for AI models and robots. Backed by a $25M seed round with advisors including Chris Ré (Stanford), David Baker (Nobel laureate), and Kevin Weil (former CPO at OpenAI), Transfyr tackles problems at the intersection of frontier science, perception, machine learning, and robotics. As a Software Engineer (UI/UX), you will design, build, and support the interfaces through which wet-lab biologists, lab managers, annotators, and customers interact with the Transfyr platform. The underlying data includes synchronized high-resolution video, audio, transcripts, sensor streams, protocol context, model outputs, annotations, and experimental outcomes. Your responsibility is to make that information clear and actionable, surfacing the right signals for each user type. This is a full-stack engineering role with end-to-end design ownership. You will conduct user research, define workflows, prototype interactions, make information architecture and visual design decisions, write production code, and support what you ship. You'll work closely with backend, perception, and AI/ML engineers on video streaming, overlays, queries, data contracts, and system performance. You may contribute beyond the browser when necessary to deliver reliable product. Key responsibilities include: building intuitive scientific interfaces that help users understand experimental outcomes and identify deviations; creating video-data-rich experiences with synchronized media and sensor data; surfacing queries, alerts, and confidence signals without burying scientific context; owning the experience end-to-end from research through production and iteration; creating reliable interfaces for imperfect networks, long recordings, and evolving model outputs; and developing a consistent visual and interaction system. You should be a hands-on, high-agency builder with deep production front-end engineering experience (TypeScript/JavaScript, React or similar frameworks), strong UI/UX and interaction design skills, and a systems-thinking approach to how data contracts, latency, and media behavior affect interfaces. You care about testing, observability, and supporting what you ship. You're user-focused, notice friction, and can explain decisions across technical and scientific teams. The role is in-person in Cambridge, MA.
